Jump Starting A Motorcycle Battery From A Car

Jump Starting A Motorcycle Battery From A Car

Jump Starter

At one time or another, you will find that you have to be forced into jump starting a motorcycle battery. In some cases you will be able to do this from another bike, but what happens when you have to do it from a car? Here is a guide that will be able to get you back on the road easily, even if you have don't have access to another motorcycle.

A car's battery is much stronger than the one in your bike. Make sure that the car is not turned on or started since there is enough juice to fire you up. This will help to make sure the your bike doesn't suffer any damage to its starting system. It is very important that you tell the owner of the car this, since the repairs can be very costly and your bike will not start once it has received damage.

You want to connect the cable to the car's positive post first, and then to the one on your bike. Most of the time, this is going to be the red connector but you do want to visually confirm it is the right one. It is very important that you do not touch any metal since this can short the electrical system out or cause a fire.

Connect the remaining clamp to the negative post on the car and then the other side to any metal on the bike. Make sure you are not connecting it to chrome. You may notice a small spark when you do this, but don't panic because this is fairly common.

Check the connections to make sure that they are secure and then fire your bike up. This is the easiest way to be able to succeed in jump starting a motorcycle battery from a car and get you back on the road.
